How FaceTime Photo Sessions Saved My Sanity

February 23, 2021

Dramatic title much? If you know me, that’s kind of my MO. I’m a sensitive type 4 on the enneagram personality type, so I have BIG FEELINGS. And when COVID hit and sent my industry into a tailspin, I definitely had the terrible, helpless feeling that so many others had. I don’t remember where I saw this, but photographers around the world had started taking virtual portraits of people in their homes, so I wanted to partake. And taking these photos saved my sanity. I really mean that.

In a time of so much scary uncertainty, these sessions confirmed my purpose: to photograph people as they are – comfortably alone, as a couple, or as a family. I will forever be grateful for this creative outlet in a time when we were all stuck at home!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Ali and Kyle having a jam session:

Katie, Nick, and JD the cat.

Amy, Nolan, and Captain Brodie being cozy at home.

KC, Byron, and Harrisson loudly saying “CHEEEEESE” to the camera.

Erica Lee being her usual fabulous self.

My good friend, Teddy, wanting some photos to celebrate his self love journey. These turned out to be some of my favorite photos ever!

Sarah, my high school friend, and her family + their sweet cat.

This might have been the most meaningful of all the sessions: my sweet clients, Meegan and Brenda, having their Zoom wedding at their home in Lubbock.

Bonnie and her cat!

Chris and Nick, some of my former wedding clients, and their literal zoo full of dogs, cats, and reptiles!

My wedding planning friend, Sarah, and her family.

The super talented Whitney Rogers, all the way in Amsterdam, with her family.

Our good friends Aaron, Jess, Benjamin, and Maggie back when she was a newborn!

Cecily, of Uncle Willie’s Pies, having a fabulous birthday celebration on Zoom!

My beautiful friend, Roger, before he moved out of this apartment.

Paulina and Mr. Pickles!

And Nick and me at home. There’s no one else I’d rather quarantine with. Photos by Whitney Rogers.

While I don’t know what the rest of 2021 will bring, I will forever be grateful for this creative outlet during an anxiety-riddled time.
